What is the GDPR?

Enacted by the European Parliament and the Council of the European Union, the General Data Protection Regulation (“GDPR”) went into effect in May 2018.

The GDPR aims to standardize and strengthen citizens’ data protection rights across the EU by setting requirements for how organizations collect, store, protect, and otherwise process personal data.

The GDPR is significant because it improves the protection of EU data subjects’ rights and clarifies the measures that organizations must take to safeguard these rights. All organizations that process personal data and operate within, or sell goods to the EU, are impacted by the GDPR.
